Icky Toliet Turned New Again

As a turnover cleaning specialist, I daily see toliets that match this m.o. There are a variety of ways to tackle it that are not only budget friendly, but also good for the earth.

1. Give yourself a courtesy flush (or two).

2. Grab these key three ingredients: bleach, baking soda, and vinegar.

3. Grab these key three cleaning utensils: sponge (with scrubbing surface), rag (old one that you don't feel bad about throwing out), and rubber gloves.

4. Don the gloves, avoid the hep.

5. Liberally spray the bowl with bleach. Flush.

6. Liberally sprinkle bowl with baking soda.

7. Using the scrub side of your sponge, tackle the grim. Baking soda not only works as a deoderizer, but also as an abrasive cleaner (like comet or soft scrub). Just like an exfoliate on your skin, it will get rid of the dirt cells clinging to your toliet bowl and help to remove the ring.

8. Flush again.

9. Sprinkle baking soda on bowl and let sit.

10. Mix up one tablespoon to one cup of vinegar and water. Spray over tub surface, including sides where urine likes to build up.

11. Using rag, wipe all the surface. Around the caulking of the floor/toliet you might need a liberal spray to help get up the urine stains. (In the case that such smells make you faint, a little vapor rub up the nostrils helps).

12. Apply full force vinegar to bowl where baking soda is soaking in and watch the "scrubbing bubbles" work.

13. Flush.

14. Still got a ring? Go to step 15. If not, congrats, you have a clean, smell free toliet.

15. Grab a steel wool pad an attack the ring with a little more baking soda. Pumice stone purportedly works as well, but I don't buy it.

16. Coat the bowl with a little bleach and let sit.

17. Viola! A toliet you can be proud of.

When I moved to my bofyfriend's home, the toilet had a ring that wouldn't go away, no matter how many detergents I used,  so I tried a pumice sold at the hardware store, and the toilet is sparkling white now.

Ugh. What a task to undertake. Sounds like with enough chemicals, anything is possible! :P
